It is a treatment that focuses on massaging acupressure points along the scalp, neck, face and shoulders, often using circular massage strokes to improve hair and scalp condition. The technique originates from an Indian alternative medicine system called Ayurveda, meaning ‘the science of life’
Indian head massage is an ancient therapeutic practice that has been used in India for over 2000 years.
As with any holistic modality, the therapeutic effects cannot be guaranteed.
A typical Indian head massage treatment, usually starts with the shoulders, as they often hold a lot of tension. The upper back is also massaged, working around the shoulder blades and arms.
Following this, a flowing motion is applied to the neck massaging and stretching to relieve any stress and tension.
After a while, the scalp is massaged along the acupressure points on the head, followed by the forehead, the area around the eyes, lips and chin.
This massage is coupled with oils, which condition the hair, promote growth and healthy skin. Coconut, sesame and almond oils are the most popular to use as they are perfect for dry hair.
Let the therapist know if you suffer with any oil or essential oil allergy, before the massage!
